Maternity pay is made up of several components:
Occupational Maternity Pay (OMP)
NHS scheme
Eligibility depends on length of NHS service, pay depends on your earnings
Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP)
Government scheme
Eligibility depends on both length of service with one employer and continuity of employment
Maternity Allowance (MA)
Government scheme
Alternative to SMP if you are new to your trust and don’t satisfy eligibility criteria for SMP
SMP and MA pay you the same amount, however the money comes from a different place, so the application is different
More info and details on how to apply for MA can be found on the gov.uk website here
